JACQUES BELIN.

Morocco in the 1950's.
I am unable to find any information on Jacques Belin. Other than that he was "photographe semi-officiel de la résidence générale."

These pictures all come from:
MAROC UN CERTAIN REGARD.
By Frederic Mitterand and Abdellah Taia.
Actes Sud/Malika Editions.
ISBN 9954-0-3748-9

Hello Mustafa,
Thanks for your comment. I'm very pleased to hear from you.
I was working in Marrakech earlier this year and found 'Maroc, un certain regard'. I noticed that when I began to check the accreditation for the photographs that I thought most interesting I realised that they were nearly all by Jacques Belin.
I am extremely interested to hear about your collection. I would love to see it.

I enjoyed Marrakech very much.
I am an artist. I work in the film industry. You can see my personal work if you check the link at top right 'Limbolo'.
Why not put your collection online? Then we can all see it.

Howdi Hi Limbo ^_^..!!
Glad to hear that u enjoyed ur time in my "neck of the wood"..!! Hey..!1 Hope u didn t end up with a stack of unwanted carpets..^o^..!! Anyway.. I just check out ur website..I must say, it s a very very interesting and wonderful work u have there.. a lil question though, why "Blue Man" as a title for the animation project..!!?? Back to ur question "
Why not put your collection online? ".. As u probably know, it s something that needs lots of time and efforts, and at the very moment, I have neither but I will do that inb the future INSHALLAH..!! ^_

Mustafa, hello again,
I managed to get back from Marrakech without any carpets but I did bring home several pairs of babouches, including some bright yellow ones for my dad, who is now happily shuffling around in them like the old gentlemen you see in the souks.

The 'Blue Man' is the mysterious personage that the hero - Amou - must find. (There is a reference here to the Taureg.)

I know putting websites together can take up a lot of time , which is why these blogs are so useful. You can post stuff very quickly and... it's free!

Hi LimBlue..!!!
Geeee man...!!U mean they let u go out of Marraksh UN-carpeted..o_o??!!! U must be either a full blooded Scot or u re just mistaken for one of those penniless Peace-corp volunteers...hehehe..!!But hey... at least u got a happily SHUFFLy BABOOSHED dad..^o^
Anyway, I did actually thought that the Blue Man as a title was in reference to a Saharaoui/Touareg but when I saw ur drawings, the characters looked a lil more like Sub-Sahara Africans..Maybe I just lack some sort of Blue imagination !! ^_^..
By the way, there s a Sahara tribe called Azzaguiyeen..which translate in Arabic as Blue people because of course of the color of their robes but mainly coz of a dye they use to protect their skin from the sun rays and also as substitute of water ... Touareg are Berber desent and Azzagrguiyeen are arab/Yameni desent...
I really do wish u the best success in that project..
I do agree with u though that the Blogs are the best way to publish stuff..but it s just in my case at the very moment I m more like ur Dad´s poor yellow Baboush..well shuffled around to earn a living.. (hmmm, "YELLOW BABOUSH-ED MAN"..that could be a great title too..I should copyright that..hehehe^o^!!)
Take care

Neil,
looks like that Jacques Belin collection is safe in Nantes, France. 100 000 photos.
now it's a state preservation, i guess you have to call them and see if you can book a day to explore some of the files... they sound like it can be open to the public, scholars, researchers and scots.
If you want me to call them to inquire about it, you tell me. they might speak english actually, but i wouldn't bet on it. 3 hours drive from my place, btw.

you should explore that link here too, but not Belin...
