Bruno Schultz was murdered by the SS. Almost all of his work was destroyed.

Yes, he was a Galician Jew. When the nazis occupied Poland he was 'protected' by a gestapo officer who admired his work. An enemy of this man murdered Schultz by shooting him dead in the street.

The drawings, which were smuggled out of Poland during the war, gives us only glimpses of all the work which was destroyed.
The QUAY BROTHERS adapted his novel STREET OF CROCODILES into an animated movie some years back.

His draings are very expresive.txs for this.
It would be remarkable if any of his major work survived the war. So far nothing has come to light. His fame rests upon his dark, surrealist fables. Words are harder to destroy than artifacts.

It makes you wonder how many other talents have been snuffed out, deliberately or otherwise.
I'm thinking in particular of Stalin's `Terror´

Actually some of his painting survived. I have seen them on an exhibition in Warsaw some time ago. Three years ago, I think.
There have been murals by Schulz discovered in a villa in Drohobycz, occupied by German officer Landau, during the war. Schulz was ordered ("commisioned" would be out of place here)Schulz to paint fairy tales illustrations for Landau,s children on the walls of their bedroom. Strangely enough, after the discovery, men of israeli Yad Vashem have cut out the murals off the walls secretely and took them to Jerusalem. What's left, was taken to Drohobycz museum.

The only site I have found so far is here. Pictures are resonably sized. So go and see... This is what's left in Ukraine, after Yad Vashem operation.
And of course there are some oils in polish museums; Museum of Literature in Warsaw, and Jewish Institute, Warsaw as well. Unfortunately no web apperances for those. :(
